Clinical Syndromes
- Attachment of the flukes in the small intestines can cause inflammation, ulceration and hemorrhage.
- Severe infections produce abdominal discomfort, similar to that of duodenal ulcer as well as diarrhea.
- In rare cases, death occurs.
Treatment, Prevention and Control
- Drug of choice is praziquantel.
- Safe consumption of aquatic vegetation, proper sanitation and control of human feces would help to reduce the incidence of that disease.
- Control of reservoir hosts would also help reduce the transmission of the worm.
