Hymenolepis Nana

Physiology and Structure:
H. nana, also known as dwarf tapeworm is only 2-4cm long. It has a simple life cycle and does not require to be an intermediate host.
Clinical Syndromes:
As our intestine has a few worms, there are no symptoms for H. nana. In heavy infections, hyperinfection and autoinfection occur. Symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache and anorexia.
Diagnosis:
Stool examination will reveal the characteristics of H. nana egg, with its six-hooked embryo and polar filaments.
Treatment, Prevention and Control:
Improved sanitation, proper personal hygiene can treat H. nana cases.
