Arthropods

Arthropods:

  • Arthropods are divded into 2 catogeories; Chilopoda, Pentastomida, Crustacea, Arachnida and Insecta.
  • Arthropoda comprises invertebrate animals.
  • Metamorphosis is a process whereby arthropods deveop from an egg to an adult.

The artropods or their larvae affect human health in many ways. Most arthropods function indirectly in human diseases; they transmit but do not produce disease. Diseases are transmitted mechanically when flies carry enteric bacterial pathogens from feces to human food. this is the ability of many arthropods to act as biologc vectors and intermediate hosts in the trasmission and developmental cycle of viruses, bacteria, protozoa and metazoa.

Some artropods can inflict direct injury by their bites or stings whereas some act as true parasites such as maggots, others may function as both parasites and vectors of diseases.
